2D Restaurant, the first "hand-drawn monochrome, 2-dimensional illusionary restaurant in the U.S.A." just opened today in Lakeview, 2/22/22, at 2:22 pm! The restaurant is located at 3155 N. Halsted and is an Instagrammer's delight with black and white, Parisian-inspired graphics (think Emily in Paris on steriods) and a small but mighty menu.
The restaurant describes itself as "an eatery that transports people into their own comic universe using monochrome illusions" and "Chicago's first ever pon de ring donut shop (aka Mochi Donuts)." 2D also serves Asian fried chicken, a Phin style coffee bar and strawberry splits.
The eatery will donate its first day profits to Brave Space Alliance, a nonprofit that provides educational and access-based programming to the LGBQT community.
Husband and wife duo Kevin Yu and Vanessa Vu combined their backgrounds in the food industry and interior design for the unique concept for 2D Restaurant. The couple worked with comic book illustrator Mia Larson to bring their vision to life. (2d-restaurant.com)
