More fire restrictions to be implemented
VIRGINIA CITY — Lands in Madison County managed by Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks are also under Stage 1 fire restrictions. A week ago, FWP implemented Stage 1 fire restrictions in Beaverhead County, too.
Under these restrictions, building, maintaining, attending or using a fire or campfire is prohibited unless an exemption is made. People may only smoke within an enclosed vehicle or building, a developed recreation site or while stopped in an area at least 3 feet in diameter clear of flammable materials. People may cook on liquid petroleum gas or propane stove that can be turned off.
These restrictions at FWP sites will be in place until further notice. Learn more about current fire restrictions for other areas of Montana on the FWP website.

‘Night of Fun with Moths’ planned at Big Hole
The Calypso Chapter of the Montana Native Plant Society is planning “A Night of Fun with Moths” beginning at 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 24, at a campground on the Big Hole River.
Participants can stay for just the evening into the dark hours only or plan to camp. All are welcome, especially families.

Protogygia pryorensis is a newly identified species of moth found at the base of the Pryor Mountains.
Moth expert Nick Tucci will help guide attendees in discovering the large numbers and diversity of native moths, using various lights and screens for attracting and observing with no harm to the moths.
“It’s not just the bees,” said a Calypso spokesperson. “Montana’s native moths have an outsized role in pollinating our native plants.
