To celebrate World Down Syndrome Day, Friday, March 21, GiGi’s Playhouse is putting on events at over 50 locations around the country, including downtown Chicago. The GiGiFIT Acceptance Challenge starts on Saturday, March 15, through Sunday, June 29, and raises awareness and acceptance through fitness-based fun activities.
This initiative will help GiGi’s Playhouse raise funds to continue providing free services. Twenty years ago, the organization was created by Nancy Gianni after giving birth to her daughter GiGi, who was born with Down syndrome. Nancy built GiGi’s Playhouse in the hopes of changing the views of a Down syndrome diagnosis and spreading acceptance.
With 57 achievement centers and virtual playhouses, GiGi’s Playhouse has become a global force for good, serving over 30,000 families in 83 countries. Each week, the organization spends over 4,400 hours providing life-changing education, therapeutic, and career-building programs for people with Down syndrome.
