"People will come Ray, they most definitely will come....." James Earl Jones famously said in the 1989 classic movie, "Field of Dreams." And it will become a reality tonight in Dysersville, Iowa, when 4,000 fans are expected to see the long-anticipated MLB Field of Dreams game between the Chicago White Sox and the New York Yankees. An 8,000-seat stadium (costing $5 million+) has been constructed right next to the original film site. This historic game was originally scheduled for last year but had to be postponed due to Covid.
Expect a lot of nostalgia. There will be a corn maze and cardboard cutouts of popular Yankees and White Sox players. The players will enter from the corn stalks in right field wearing "throw-back uniforms. A corn maze has been designed to look like the MLB logo. An audio from the film will be playing as fans enter the stadium and wooden arrows will point toward Yankee Stadium, the White Sox’s Guaranteed Rate Field and the Town Center. Attendees can enjoy an Apple Pie Hot dog, created by Guy Fieri, the star of "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives."
The game will be broadcast nationally on Fox tonight, August 12, starting at 6:15 CST. Kevin Costner is expected to attend.
The series will resume in Chicago on Saturday.
