DYERSBURG, Tenn. - Six inmates were hospitalized after a fight Tuesday at a state prison in West Tennessee, officials said.

Dyersburg Police (DPD) reported the incident just before 10 a.m.

They said officers responded to West Tennessee Healthcare in Dyersburg following an "inmate-related incident" at the Northwest Correctional Complex, a state prison located in Tiptonville.

Police said Tuesday morning that there was no threat to the public, adding that the situation was "under control."

On Wednesday, West Tennessee Healthcare said in a statement that six patients were transferred to its facility in Dyersburg for treatment. The hospital did not further elaborate, citing privacy laws.

In a statement Wednesday, the Tennessee Department of Correction said that it was investigating "an altercation involving several inmates at the Northwest Correctional Complex" but did not release further details.
