More than 40,000 spectators gathered outside Adler Planetarium on Aug. 21, for the Chicago Eclipse Fest. The planetarium hosted the event in honor of the first total solar eclipse come to Chicago. The eclipse began in Chicago at approximately 11:54a.m, and by 1:19p.m., a majority of the sun was covered by the moon.

The first 40,000 to arrive at the planetarium received free eclipse glasses as part of the planetariums #EquippedtoEclipse campaign. All attendees received free admission to the planetarium, and access to all day activities, live entertainment and educational programming.
