The Chicago Symphony Orchestra and The Joffrey Ballet will unite for an extraordinary and historic artistic collaboration on April 10-13 at Symphony Center. This marks their third joint venture since 2019, bringing together world-class orchestral music and innovative ballet in a two-hour program conducted by Harry Bicket, Music Director of Santa Fe Opera. Audiences will experience a captivating blend of classical music and groundbreaking dance, including two world premiere ballets.
The Chicago Symphony Orchestra (CSO) will showcase its remarkable range with Haydn’s poignant Symphony No. 45 (Farewell) and the orchestra’s first-ever performance of Chevalier de Saint-Georges Joseph Bologne’s Symphony No. 1, a historically significant and vibrantly energetic work.
Adding to the excitement, The Joffrey Ballet, under the artistic direction of Ashley Wheater MBE, will present two newly commissioned ballets:
"Second Nature", choreographed by the acclaimed Amy Hall Garner, set to Coleridge-Taylor Perkinson’s evocative Sinfonietta No. 1. This piece explores the intricate relationship between humanity and the natural world, brought to life through Garner’s innovative movement vocabulary.
"Les Bœufoons", a lively and theatrical work choreographed by Nicolas Blanc, set to Darius Milhaud’s exuberant "Le Bœuf sur le toit". Blanc’s choreography promises a visually stunning and dynamic experience.
This groundbreaking collaboration highlights the synergy between two of Chicago’s most prestigious arts institutions, offering audiences a unique opportunity to witness the fusion of orchestral mastery and world-class dance. Don’t miss this unforgettable cultural event that celebrates the rich artistic heritage of Chicago.
