The 14,000-square foot space incorporates floating holographic human figures, resonant frequencies and sounds of the body, along with the visitor’s reflection in the engulfing mirrored walls, all juxtaposed by Stein’s animations.
Media artist Adrian Stein’s first art installation, titled "Quantum Mirror,” will premiere March 20. at ArtSpace8, a 14,000-square foot Gold Coast gallery that specializes in contemporary fine art.
The installation invites viewers to self-reflect on the fracture of identity through their social media personas, offering a meditative experience for guests by featuring floating holographic human figures, resonant frequencies and more.
"This piece encompasses my experiences and analysis of a fractured identity, informed by an array of cultures within my single body," Stein said in a news release.
The installation is viewable on the third floor of ArtSpace 8, starting March 20 through April, with plans for an extension. The gallery is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. and Sundays from noon - 6 p.m.
Online registration is required through Stein’s homepage. The exhibit is free and open to the public from March 20 through April, allowing 10 people in the space at a time while following COVID-19 safety guidelines.
For Stein, a Guatemalan native who lives and works in Chicago, his artistic duality as both a Guatemalan and an American has given rise to a “hybrid identity,” forcing him to exist in both places and in none.
“As a Guatemalan native living in America, this piece encompasses my experiences and analysis of a fractured identity, informed by an array of cultures within my single body,” Stein said in a news release.
“The opportunity to convey the concept behind “Quantum Mirror” is an exceptionally proud moment for me as an emerging Latino artist,” Stein said. “In the wake of a fresh new year, I hope this timely installation brings light to the ways that social media affects our sense of self.”
