Navy Pier Carnivale

Celebrate the international tradition of Carnivale, Chicago style, March 5 at Navy Pier. Presented by ComEd, the festival will feature an afternoon of music, food, dance and art from across the globe.

Lose yourself in a melting pot of spicy music and dance traditions representing Brazil, Italy, Puerto Rico and North America. Bands will include Chicago Samba, Plena Project presented by Segundo Ruiz Belvis Cultural Center and Four Star Brass Band.

The festival of Carnivale has roots in Roman Catholic tradition and usually takes place over a few days in February or March, just before the tradition of Lent, a time of fasting and sacrifice. The word itself can possibly be traced to the early Latin term for “to abstain from meat.”

Today, Carnivale is known the world over as a time of to let loose and celebrate with friends, old and new. For a taste of Carnivale, right here in Chicago, bring your friends to the Navy Pier Aon Grand Ballroom, 600 E. Grand Avenue, Saturday, March 5 from 1:00 p.m. to 05:00 p.m. Admission is free.
