Under the baton of Dame Jane Glover and featuring Demarre McGill, principal flute of the Seattle Symphony, the program weaves masterworks by fathers and their sons — each piece a testament to both tradition and innovation.
The evening highlights include:
Leopold Mozart’s Symphony in F Major, representing the work of the elder Mozart whose meticulous musicianship influenced his son’s prodigious development.
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Flute Concerto No. 2 in D Major, K. 314, demonstrating the youthful brilliance that propelled him into musical immortality.
Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach’s Flute Concerto in G Major, H.445, reflecting his adventurous break from traditional Baroque styles into expressive novelty.
Johann Sebastian Bach’s Orchestral Suite No. 4 in D Major, BWV 1069, a majestic example of Baroque orchestral grandeur that influenced his son C.P.E.’s own musical voice.
This thoughtfully curated concert not only celebrates the profound familial and artistic bonds linking towering musical figures like Bach and Mozart but also offers audiences an opportunity to decide for themselves which voices — father’s or son’s — resonate most deeply.
Fathers & Sons continues Music of the Baroque’s mission to present exceptional performances that illuminate the depth and diversity of Baroque and early Classical repertoire, engaging both longtime connoisseurs and newcomers to classical music.
