Aurora’s Paramount Theatre kicked off its 12th Broadway Series opener with the iconic R&B sensation Little Shop of Horrors.
The story takes place in Skid Row, where the main character, Seymour Krelborn, is living out his days working at the failing Mushnik’s Flower Shop. One day, Krelborn came across a strange plant that feeds on human blood. He names the plant Audrey II and gets caught up in a plan to get fresh blood for it. Krelborn tackles this plan while also trying to save the love of his life from her evil boyfriend.
Director Landree Fleming is making her Paramount directorial debut with this series run. She’s a rising talent in the Chicago musical theater scene and is a Paramount favorite actress, appearing as Lucinda in Into the Woods and Penny in Hairspray. Fleming has also co-directed Paramount’s production of Fun Home and was the associate director of Beauty and the Beast.
Little Shop of Horrors is here until Sunday, October 15, just in time before the spooky season ends. Ticket sales and information are available on the Paramount Theatre website.
