Chicago’s holiday season will get a little extra Disney magic this year when Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse lead the 35th annual Wintrust Magnificent Mile Lights Festival on Saturday, Nov. 21. The beloved downtown tradition returns with a full day of free family activities, an evening parade, the illumination of North Michigan Avenue and a fireworks spectacular over the Chicago River.

Marking 35 years of holiday memories, the festival has become one of the city's signature seasonal celebrations, drawing generations of families and visitors downtown to welcome the holidays. This year's festivities promise to make the milestone anniversary particularly memorable, with the Disney favorites from Walt Disney World Resort serving as grand marshals.

The celebration begins at 11 a.m. at Lights Festival Lane, located at Pioneer Court, 401 N. Michigan Ave. Open until 4 p.m., the free daytime gathering will feature interactive family activities, festive booths and live musical performances, giving visitors plenty of reasons to arrive early and enjoy the holiday atmosphere.

The main attraction begins at 5:30 p.m. when Mickey and Minnie lead the evening parade south along North Michigan Avenue, starting at Oak Street and continuing to the Chicago River before turning east onto Wacker Drive and ending at Columbus Drive.

Billed as the largest evening parade in the United States, the procession will feature approximately 40 illuminated floats, giant helium balloons, marching bands from across the country, musical performers, celebrity appearances and, of course, the arrival of Santa Claus.

As the parade makes its way down the avenue, spectators will witness the illumination of one million lights across more than 200 trees lining North Michigan Avenue. The sparkling display is one of the festival's most anticipated traditions, transforming the Magnificent Mile into a glowing holiday corridor.

“For 35 years, the Lights Festival has done more than illuminate The Magnificent Mile. It has marked the start of the holiday season in Chicago,” said Kimberly Bares, president and CEO of The Magnificent Mile Association. She noted that families who attended as children are now returning with children of their own, making the event a multigenerational tradition.

Bradley Borowiec, senior vice president at The Wrigley Building and chair of the 2026 festival, said the anniversary celebration is designed to deliver the excitement audiences have come to expect, from the daytime festivities at Pioneer Court through the parade and fireworks finale.

For those who can't make it downtown, the festivities will also reach television audiences. ABC 7 Chicago will air a one-hour broadcast on Sunday, Nov. 22, from 6 to 7 p.m., hosted by Cheryl Burton and Ryan Chiaverini. The program will also be available on abc7chicago.com, Disney+ under its Live tab and ABC 7's connected TV apps, including Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, Apple TV and Roku. The broadcast will be available to audiences nationwide throughout the holiday season.

With all activities free and open to the public, the 35th anniversary Wintrust Magnificent Mile Lights Festival offers a festive way to begin Chicago's holiday season. Whether watching Mickey and Minnie lead the procession, counting the illuminated floats or finding a spot along the river for the fireworks, the November 21 celebration promises plenty of holiday sparkle.
