What's happening around Chicago:

  • The new Morton Arboretum Human+Nature interactive exhibition will feature tall sculptures that connect people with trees and nature by featuring 37-feet-long sculptures of interwoven root structures with the human body. The exhibit was scheduled for April 9 but was delayed due to pandemic-related shipping delays; the new opening date will be announced in the coming weeks.
  • Joe Flamm, a former Top Chef contestant, announced his first restaurant, Rose Mary, will open April 20.
  • Other restaurants expected to open this month include Musi in the Gold Coast, Apolonia and a new Lao Sze Chuan location in the South Loop, Avli in Lakeshore East and fast casual chain Dos Bros in River North.
  • The Venteux, a French restaurant at the upcoming Pendry Chicago in the Loop, is slated to open this spring.
  • Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot announced the city intends to open vaccine eligibility to all adults by April 19, in accordance with the deadline set by President Joe Biden.

  • The city of Chicago's travel advisory order has been updated, with four new states -- Iowa, Nebraska, North Dakota and Ohio -- and Washington D.C. moving to the orange tier, which requires travelers to quarantine for 10 days or test negative for COVID-19 within 72 hours of their arrival.
  • The Mercury Theater will reopen with a new artistic director, the Chicago Tribune reported.

  • The Chicago Loop Alliance will host a virtual panel, "Downtown Futures Series: The Loop’s Comeback," from 10-11 a.m. April 14.

  • Hotel Essex has become a Marriott hotel and is rebranding as Le Méridien Essex Chicago.

  • Cook County began booking 30,000 new COVID-19 vaccine appointments at five suburban locations: the Tinley Park Convention Center, Des Plaines Community Vaccination Center, Triton College, South Suburban College and Forest Park Community Vaccination Center.
  • The Illinois Facebook class-action privacy settlement payouts, which would award $345 each to 1.6 million eligible Facebook users, have been delayed after three users appealed the court decision.
  • Parachute chef Beverly Kim and chefs at other Chicago restaurants are taking part in the "dough something" fundraiser, which raises money for Asian Americans Advancing Justice, following incidents of anti-Asian violence in the U.S.
  • The CDC has requested that Walgreens begin spacing the first and second doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine three weeks apart instead of four.
  • NoMI Garden & Lounge at the Park Hyatt Chicago announced plans to reopen Thursday, April 8.
  • Navy Pier will host a job fair from 3-7 p.m. Monday, April 12, at the People's Energy Welcome Pavilion. 
  • The Four Seasons Hotel Chicago plans to welcome back guests on April 30 following the completion of major renovations. 
  • The Chicago Children's Museum has created a curated play space at the Radisson Blu Aqua Hotel, which includes giant building blocks and a Zoom Room test track.
