President Biden has issued a federal disaster declaration for Cook County in response to massive flooding earlier this year. Between June 29 and July second, severe storms dumped as much as 9 inches of rain on parts of Chicago.
According to a statement from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Illinois will receive federal disaster assistance to aid recovery efforts. The assistance will notably help hard-hit areas on Chicago's west side, including Austin and Garfield Park.
Assistance will include temporary housing and home repair grants, low-interest loans to cover uninsured property losses, and other programs to help individuals and business owners recover from the severe storms.
Citizens and business owners can apply for funding by registering with the official federal disaster assistance site or through the FEMA App.
