After more than four decades on the Magnificent Mile, the Macy's store at Water Tower Place will be closing its doors following a clearance sale that will begin this month and last for about eight to 12 weeks, the company announced Tuesday, Jan. 5.
The closure of the 835 N. Michigan Ave. store comes as part of Macy's strategy to "right-size its store fleet," according to a company statement.
"The decision to close a store is always a difficult one, and Macy’s Water Tower Place has been honored to serve its customers on the Magnificent Mile for 45 years," the statement continues.
Non-seasonal colleagues that could not be relocated to a nearby Macy's store are eligible for severance, which includes outplacement resources, according to the company.
The Macy's store on State Street will remain, along with suburban stores in Oakbrook, Woodfield, Orland Park, Old Orchard and Hawthorn Court.
