Not guaranteed: White Sox’s home renamed ‘Rate Field’ for 2025

In a move that has left many Chicago White Sox fans less than excited, the team’s home stadium, Guaranteed Rate Field, will be rebranded as "Rate Field" starting next season. The change follows the announcement by Guaranteed Rate Mortgages in July that it would drop "Guaranteed" from its name in favor of a more streamlined, modern identity. The rebranding was revealed in a video posted to the team’s Twitter/X account on Dec. 19, 2024.

The decision to simplify the stadium’s name is part of a broader rebranding effort by the mortgage company, now just called "Rate." The company cited the shift as part of a move to create a "concise, modern identity," according to their statement.

For many White Sox fans, the name change feels like just another chapter in the long history of stadium rebrands. The ballpark, originally known as Comiskey Park, has undergone multiple name changes since it opened in 1910. In 2003, it became U.S. Cellular Field, before adopting the name Guaranteed Rate Field in 2016. Now, just a few years later, it will be known simply as Rate Field. The frequency of these changes has led many long-time Sox fans to simply refer to the stadium as “Comiskey Park” or “Sox Park.”

For some fans, the new name is a minor issue in the grand scheme of things, especially after the White Sox’s disappointing 2024 season, which saw them suffer a record-breaking 121 losses, according to ESPN. On social media, many fans mocked the name change. One user joked, “They removed Guaranteed from the name because they cannot guarantee a win next year.”

As the White Sox enter a new season under the banner of Rate Field, fans are hoping for a change in fortunes, one that brings historic wins instead of more losses.
