The Evie: a new upscale restaurant opens on The Magnificent Mile

Elevated contemporary classic dishes

The Magnificent Mile is known to tourists as a world-class shopping destination. The Evie plans on raising the stakes with their new upscale restaurant at 535 N. Michigan Avenue. It takes over the old Bandera space, a staple for over two decades on Michigan Avenue but has since become a memory thanks to the pandemic.

A group of renowned restaurant figures leads the local Chicago team. It includes George Archos, the entrepreneur behind Wildberry Café and CEO of Verano Holdings, along with Partner & Chef Nick Nitti of Forno Rosso, Lucia Rose, and Cucina 3 Italian, and Executive Chef Phil Rubino of Spiaggia, L2O, and Cicchetti. The goal is to bring a locally owned, independent restaurant to the Magnificent Mile, currently filled with chain brands. They want to fill the gap and showcase why Chicago is a world-class dining destination.

The menu's purpose is to make everyone happy. It will include fresh sushi, prime steaks, and classic American food. Executive Chef Phil Rubino has created elevated contemporary classics focusing on fresh, locally-sourced ingredients.

It's not Chicago without a hotdog. Chef has taken the beloved encased meat to the next level with his American Wagyu Chicago-Style Hotdog, fully dressed and served on a poppy seed bun. A slow-roasted Signature Prime Rib Dip is piled high on a baguette and filled with the house au jus. That's one fancy beef sandwich. Seafood will be flown in daily, and staff will bake bread on-site every morning.

Aida Napoles of AGN Design has completely reimagined the 7,100-square-foot interior. The goal was to invoke the feelings of entering an art gallery. "Every curated piece of art has an interesting story to tell," says Napoles. "Whether it's how the artist crafted the piece from melted crayons to intricate wire that was carefully woven into large dimensional organic shapes, each corner of the restaurant showcases a different local artist." The Evie will be open for lunch and dinner from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday through Saturday. For more information, check out eviechicago.com
