A wave of generosity is set to ripple through Chicago’s Shedd Aquarium, thanks to a transformative $10 million gift from Abbott and its philanthropic foundation, Abbott Fund. This investment strengthens a decades-long alliance between the healthcare company and the aquarium, ensuring that future generations will continue to be inspired by the wonders of marine life.

Abbott’s support of Shedd Aquarium has a long history, most notably in 2010 when the institution named its marine mammal pavilion the Abbott Oceanarium. Since then, more than 30 million visitors have encountered beluga whales, Pacific white-sided dolphins, sea otters, and other marine species within its walls. With this latest contribution, Abbott and Abbott Fund will help sustain and enhance the space for another two decades, reinforcing their shared commitment to conservation and education.

Located hundreds of miles from the nearest ocean, Shedd Aquarium provides a vital link between people and the underwater world. Abbott’s investment will expand the aquarium’s efforts to educate the next generation about marine ecosystems, inspiring them to protect the planet’s oceans and wildlife.
