Sad news for one of our favorite restaurants, Marchesa at 535 N. Wells, has made the hard decision to close. Owner Kathryn Alvera shared, “We are about to announce that we have made the difficult decision to close Marchesa. Not what we envisioned, but post-pandemic, operating a restaurant is a very expensive proposition. We have decided to go out on our terms – after a holiday season full of fabulous soirees! Heartbreaking, but we had an amazing run and were honored to help so many wonderful people celebrate so many amazing occasions.”
Marchesa was a one-of-a-kind restaurant, known for its French and Continental cuisine, where you truly felt like you were dining in someone’s home. With the exquisite décor inspired by the Guggenheim in Venice, the space was as remarkable as the food. Personally, I will hate to see this restaurant go. I have had the honor of celebrating so many special occasions there with friends. Most recently, being the goodbye party for one of Kathryn’s favorite employees, Nikki Friar.
Marchesa opened Dec. 1, 2017. She added, "I just want to express our endless gratitude for everyone's patronage over the years - throughout the pandemic. We feel lucky to have had the opportunity to help so many wonderful people celebrate their lives at Marchesa!"
The end of an era for sure, but I know wherever Kathryn pops up next, we will all follow. Best of luck with a lot of love.
