The beloved nonprofit, Common Threads, will be celebrating its 20th anniversary with an event titled “Beyond the Table,” Monday, June 2 at the Chicago Athletic Association. The organization was founded by Chef Art Smith, Jesus Salgueiro and Linda Novick O’Keefe from the basement of an old church and is now a national nonprofit that champions improved community health through the power of nutrition and food.

The event will feature nearly 30 top chefs showcasing their specialties on behalf of Common Threads. Chefs include Bill Kim, Tony Priolo, Kevin Hickey, D’Andre Carter, Cristine Cikowski, Josh Kulp, Thai Dang, Daniel Espinoza, Jhoana Ruiz, CJ Jacobson, Donny Farrel, Joe Flamm, Meg Galus, Sarah Grueneberg, Bailey Sullivan, Vinod Kalathil, Margaret Pak, Gene Kato, Jorge Kauam, Won Kim, Russell Kook, Andy Lim, Thomas Oh, Devon Quinn, Tigist Reda, Sarah Stegner, Lee Wolen and more.

Organizers say this “isn’t just a fundraiser, it’s a full sensory experience.” As guests mingle at interactive tasting stations and bid on exclusive auction items, Grammy Award-winning DJ White Shadow will provide live beats.

There will also be an award presentation recognizing the culinary changemakers that drive the nonprofit’s mission forward. Honorees include Chef Michelle Bernstein, Jon Harris, Mark Bertolini, Tres Bailey, Govind Armstrong, Shawanna Kennedy and Ann Marie Brodarick.
