The Chicago Air and Water Show is the oldest and largest show of its kind in the United States, and the 63rd edition will buzz our lakefront Saturday and Sunday, August 19/20, with a rehearsal on Friday, August 18. The shows can be viewed from Fullerton to Oak Street, with North Avenue Beach as the focal point. Admission is free both days, from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Watch for the highly anticipated appearances of the U.S. Navy Blue Angels, U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds along with appearances by the U.S. Army parachute team, the Golden Knights. Joining them will be the usual popular flying demos, antique flying machines, and demonstrations by Chicago's own fire department air/sea rescue and more. The festival coincides with the annual American Lobster Fest at Navy Pier so dine out in style while watching the show.

The event has been held every year since 1959 and attracts about 2 million spectators. Can't get to the show? Complete coverage of the Chicago Air and Water Show traditionally airs on WBBM Newsradio 780 and 105.9FM with live streaming video on their website.

For a sneak preview before the big event, headliners usually practice their stunts over the city on Friday. Planes take off and land at the Gary/Chicago International Airport in Gary, Indiana. All stunts are performed over the water, but planes often buzz the Chicago skyline in the path back to the show area or the airport so watch over the city too for more excitement.
