Dreams turn into reality at Chicago Botanic Garden’s 'Shimmering Summer'

A little magic is floating through the gardens this summer as the Chicago Botanic Garden invites visitors to experience Shimmering Summer, a colorful outdoor exhibition that transforms the landscape with larger-than-life iridescent bubbles, playful installations and interactive activities. Running through September 20, the seasonal experience encourages guests to see nature from a new perspective as reflections of the sky, trees and surrounding gardens shift with every step. 

The centerpiece of the exhibition is a trail of oversized, shimmering bubbles that appear to float among the Garden’s natural beauty, creating a whimsical environment that feels part art installation, part outdoor playground. The reflective surfaces capture changing light throughout the day, offering visitors a constantly evolving visual experience and plenty of photo-worthy moments. 

Beyond the bubble trail, Shimmering Summer features family-friendly programming, creative workshops and special events designed to bring guests together outdoors. Festival Field serves as a hub for weekend activities, where visitors can enjoy music, interactive experiences and hands-on opportunities inspired by the theme of light, color and creativity.
