At Heritage Auctions’ Summer Platinum Night in Dallas, a one-of-one Michael Jordan–Kobe Bryant Dual Logoman card sold for a record-setting $12.932 million, establishing a new benchmark in the sports collectibles market. The 2007–08 Upper Deck Exquisite Collection card features autographs and jersey patches from both NBA icons and is widely regarded as the pinnacle of modern card collecting.
The sale surpassed the previous high-water mark of $12.6 million set by a 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle card, cementing basketball memorabilia at the top of the industry. The record-setting card was purchased by a group led by investor and television personality Kevin O’Leary, who compared the acquisition to holding alternative assets such as gold or cryptocurrency, underscoring the growing role of sports collectibles in wealth diversification.
In a Heritage press release, Chris Ivy, Heritage’s director of sports auctions, called the card “the pinnacle of the modern card market,” highlighting its singular nature and scarcity value. With just one in existence, the piece is effectively insulated from supply dilution, a factor that has made rare sports cards increasingly attractive to high-net-worth individuals and institutional investors seeking stable, non-traditional assets.

The auction also carried symbolic weight, taking place on what would have been Bryant’s 47th birthday. For collectors and investors alike, the sale reflected not just the enduring market power of Jordan and Bryant, but also the momentum of sports memorabilia as a global asset class.
