Open House Chicago 2025 will turn Chicago into an open canvas of design, history and hidden spaces on Oct. 18-19. The Chicago Architecture Center presents this free public festival, offering behind‑the‑scenes access to more than 200 buildings and sites of architectural, historical,and cultural interest in over 20 neighborhoods.

For the first time, participants can log in to the OHC platform to save their favorite sites and itineraries across devices, a capability meant to streamline planning and navigation. Four neighborhood headquarters will serve as orientation hubs across the city, where visitors can pick up maps, get assistance, and adjust their routes.

At the heart of the festival is the Photo Competition 2025, returning after debuting in 2024. Photographers of all experience levels can submit images taken during the weekend in five categories: Interior, Exterior, Detail, Black & White, and a new “People & Buildings” category. Submissions must be made by October 26, and winners will earn complimentary annual membership to the CAC.

Among the buildings opening for the weekend is the National Public Housing Museum on the Near West Side, where historic apartments once part of the Jane Addams Homes will be open for self‑guided exploration during select times, and “meet the architect” sessions will offer insight into the museum’s transformation. The Driehaus Museum’s Murphy Auditorium, built in 1926 and featuring Tiffany bronze doors and an imposing stained glass window, also joins the festival with free access from noon to 5 p.m. both days.
OHC is part of the Open House Worldwide network, connecting Chicago to architecture festivals globally, and this year’s program includes self‑guided trails, public talks and virtual events beyond the two main days.
