Strides for Peace will host a new expo focusing on gun violence prevention in Chicago this weekend. Chicago's Inaugural Gun Violence Prevention Expo aims to bring together outreach and prevention specialists, law enforcement, parents and all Chicagoans with a goal to evaluate the city's gun violence problem.
Strides for Peace will host the event from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, 11/11, at the Dorin Forum on the University of Illinois Chicago campus. The Chicago-based group works with over 100 organizations with a common goal of ending gun violence.
The EXPO's programming will include a UChicago Crime Lab Dashboard Technology panel, a Chicago Public Library info session led by First Deputy Commissioner Mary Ellen Messner, an info session from the University of Chicago's Dr. Chico Tillmon, a panel on 'Turning Pain Into Purpose' including Pam Bosley, Maria Pike and moderated by Lisa D. Daniels, a talk with Avik Das (Cook County) and Delrice Adams (Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority), as well as special guest, Arne Duncan (U.S. Secretary of Education). The day features performances from The Chicago Contemporary Dance Theater, DJ Hot Rod, DJ Hannah Heavin, Mikayla Hunter, and Jay Woods.
