Get ready for Funtime Unicorn: Ruby Rides Through Four Seasons, an animated projection set to appear on Chicago’s Merchandise Mart on April 14, as part of Art on THE MART in conjunction with the 10th edition of EXPO Chicago at Navy Pier.
Funtime Unicorn: Ruby Rides Through Four Seasons is part of artist Derrick Adams’ project celebrating Black joy, love and play. The work unfolds across four seasons, beginning with Ruby on a playground, and following her through joyful dreamscapes, colorful backgrounds and light tunnels that illuminate the 2.5 acres of THE MART’s facade beginning at 8:30 p.m.
“Working with THE MART as a canvas is completely unique and outside of the general gallery or museum context,” said Adams. “Through giving viewers a window into my imagination, I hope that they will again feel the magic of their childhood memories.”
Adams’ work will also be on display at EXPO Chicago as part of Rhona Hoffman Gallery’s booth. The gallery is presenting a solo exhibition of Adams’s work through April 1.
