Full schedule for Chicago’s free outdoor movies

Summer in Chicago means skyline sunsets, picnic blankets, and movies under the stars. The city’s beloved free outdoor film traditions return this year with the Millennium Park Summer Film Series and the Chicago Park District’s Movies in the Parks, offering a lineup of classics, blockbusters, and family favorites, all for free.

Millennium Park Summer Film Series

Every Tuesday from July 1 to August 19, the Jay Pritzker Pavilion transforms into an open-air cinema. Films start at 6:30 p.m., with gates opening at 5 p.m. Attendees can bring their own food and beverages and choose to sit in the seating bowl or lounge on the Great Lawn.

The Park District’s Movies in the Parks program is back this summer for its 21st season, putting “the big screen in your backyard.”

Starting June 10, parks across the city will screen a variety of films, from Hollywood classics to family-friendly box office hits. Movie lovers can check out recent blockbusters like “Mufasa: The Lion King,” “Twisters” and “Moana 2,” as well as well-loved films like “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” “E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial,” “The Goonies” and “The Wizard of Oz.” The program runs through Sept. 13.

All movies begin at dusk. Chicagoans can call 312-742-1134 for daily listings and weather-related cancellations.

Park field houses and restrooms might not be open during movie screenings, according to the Park District. People with questions or concerns can contact their local park supervisor before the movie.

For those who live or travel Downtown, movies will be screened 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays July 1-Aug. 19 at Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park, according to the Park District website. That movie lineup has not been announced yet. Attendees will be able to sit at the pavilion or set up on the area’s lawn.
