On October 20, Mayor Brandon Johnson unveiled the return of “Chicago Halloweek” in 2023, featuring hundreds of youth and community activities and events across the city. The initiative brings together various city departments and sister agencies, corporations, and community-based organizations, aiming to create a festive and fun-filled week.
“Chicago Halloweek” is a collaborative effort between the Chicago Parks District, Chicago Police Department, Chicago Fire Department, Chicago Department of Public Health, Department of Family and Support Services, Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events, and Chicago Public Libraries.
The week-long Halloween event series offers diverse activities to cater to residents of all ages. According to a statement by theCity of Chicago, this year's events include sports, arts and crafts, teen programs, senior events, park district and library activities, and much more.
The event's primary focus is on providing safe and fun alternatives to traditional door-to-door trick-or-treating. Families can expect pumpkin decorating contests, costume parades, haunted forest walks, movie nights, and other Halloween-themed activities, all while adhering to necessary health and safety guidelines.
Mayor Johnson emphasized the importance of engaging and empowering Chicago's youth by providing opportunities for them to participate in positive civic initiatives. Halloweek serves as a platform for young residents to showcase their talents, learn new skills, and foster a sense of community spirit.
By collaborating with a wide range of institutions and organizations, the City of Chicago aims to provide an unforgettable Halloweek experience for all participants and reinforce the city's commitment to its residents' wellbeing and happiness.
