Hordes of Chicagoans flocked to the seventh annual One of a Kind Spring Show and Sale on the weekend of Friday, April 28, to see, sample, and shop from over 300 exhibitors — 200 of which were returning artists from previous years. Hosted at THE MART in River North (a.k.a. The Merchandise Mart) over the span of three days, independent makers gathered from around the country to treat Windy City residents to homemade goods.

While enjoying live musical performances and gourmet refreshments, shoppers could peruse everything from baked goods, homemade treats, handcrafted beverages, ceramics, artwork, and jewelry to bath and body products and clothes and accessories. Entertainment was provided by Old Town School of Music musicians.
The shopping experience at the One of a Kind show was a sensory overload. Delicious smells would waft through the air as guests browse aisles with chocolate-covered desserts and pastries, scented goat milk soaps, air-fried empanadas, Vietnamese coffee, and spicy salsas.

Eye-popping colors and interesting textures filled every corner of the vast floor. Some of the most decadent displays were lined with marble cutting boards, antique bar accessories, fur-lined bags with animal patterns, cocktail kits and wine slushie bags boasting every hue in the rainbow, and artwork depicting mainstream television shows and movies.
While another show occurs in the winter, the springtime show is timed perfectly just before big holidays like Mother’s Day and Father’s Day, as well as summer graduations and weddings.
One shopper mentioned that she loves coming back each year, saying, “I try to do most of my gift shopping for summer and fall birthdays at the One of Kind show because you have everything in one place! There’s something for everyone here, and it’s some of the most unique items you just can’t find at the mall or without visiting a bunch of different stores.”
Those wanting to learn more or keep in touch with artists from this immersive shopping experience can visit the 2023 exhibitors page. Mark your calendars for the next shopping show, happening this winter – Thursday, Dec. 7 through Sunday, Dec. 10.
