Under the new Tier 2 mitigations, Chicagoans can welcome back museums, performance venues, movie theaters, and indoor group fitness classes, as well as indoor recreation and event venues. Face masks are still mandatory, as well as a limited 10-person capacity within groups.
The news was announced earlier this week after the city met the minimal requirements for staying under the seven-day positivity rate, which is now at 8 percent.
Among the many businesses reopening are the Field Museum, which welcomed back members today, while the rest of the public can return this Saturday, Jan. 23. Learn more about reservations and regulations here.
The Shedd Aquarium opens next week, while the Art Institute of Chicago makes its comeback next month on Feb. 11. For more informations on museums reopening, visit here.
If Chicago can manage to stay at 8 percent or drop lower for the next few days and keep COVID hospitalizations at bay, the city could move into Tier 1, which would allow indoor dining and bars businesses with food to return, at a limited capacity.
Tier 1 is the last and less severe of all three tiers, which makes the succeeding level of progress “Phase 4.”
