Join the city of Chicago in turning out lights and electronics at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 19, to honor the lives lost to COVID-19.
In partnership with the incoming Biden-Harris administration, the nationwide Brighter Together National COVID-19 Memorial Service invites residents and businesses to step outside to their driveway, balcony, or workplace on Tuesday evening to light a candle and take 10 minutes of silence for those fallen to the coronavirus, which has taken over 397,000 lives in the U.S, and over 2 million worldwide.
According to a city press release, businesses, and faith institutions across the city are also requested to ring bells or other instruments to commemorate this memorial service.
Following the 10 minutes of silence, Chicagoans are requested to turn their lights back on, which symbolizes the notion of moving from the darkness into the light. Businesses around the city will illuminate their buildings in amber or display an image of a candle to stand in solidarity with those families and businesses impacted by COVID-19, particularly those who have lost their lives.
Don’t forget to post on social media using the hashtag #brightertogether to share the invitation with others.
