Mayor Brandon Johnson and Chicago Public Schools (CPS) are kicking off the new school year with a special treat for students - Chicago-style pizza.
In partnership with Home Run Inn Pizza and the Chicago Department of Family and Support Services (DFSS), the Chicago Police Department (CPD) and Chicago Fire Department (CFD) will distribute over 6,000 pizzas to 25 elementary schools across the south and west sides.
The event will be held on the first day of the Chicago Public Schools academic year, August 21, from 1:30 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. Chicago police and fire officials will pick up pizzas from the Dr. Martin Luther King and Garfield Community Service Centers before delivering the pizzas to local elementary schools.
Each student will receive one Home Run Inn pizza. Mayor Johnson and the CPD will personally hand out the first batch of pizzas to students at Robinson elementary school upon dismissal at 3:00 p.m.
