Initially, we had some questions about that giant egg in Maggie Daley Park, wondering if it was part of the Pokemon GO Fest that begins today, Saturday, July 17. The answer is YES! A spokesman for the event reached out to us today to confirm that it IS part of this exciting event! Read ALL the details below:
WHAT: Pokémon GO Fest is once again a global, virtual event for players around the world, but Niantic picked 20 cities to host special in-person activities, with Chicago being the biggest. Niantic will have street teams doing giveaways to players around the downtown area tomorrow. Players can also be on the lookout for special photo opportunities at Navy Pier and Ogden Plaza.
WHEN: Pokémon GO Fest runs Saturday and Sunday, 7/17 - 7/18 from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. local time each day. The Legendary Night raid egg event at Maggie Daley Park runs Saturday 7/17 from 9:00 - 10:45 p.m. Attendees will see Legendary Pokémon raids take place live, with Trainers all over the world and in Maggie Daley park teaming up to catch some of the rarest Pokémon live, projected onto a 50 foot tall Pokémon Egg.
WHERE: The Great Lawn @ Maggie Daley Park, 337 E Randolph St, Chicago, IL 60601
WHO: 1,000 residents will be invited to attend and watch live. Many many more are expected to tune in tomorrow night during a livestream on the official Pokémon GO YouTube page at https://www.youtube.com/c/pokemongo
WHY: Chicago is special to Niantic, having played host to hundreds of thousands of players over the years during prior Pokémon GO Fests, so doing something a little extra for locals this year is a way for the company to surprise and delight the many Pokémon Trainers of the greater Chicago area.
How can locals get tickets? Tickets to the Legendary Night raid event at Maggie Daley Park are free - Niantic brand ambassadors will be distributing wristbands to the first 1,000 people at Maggie Daley Park on Saturday on a first-come, first-served basis. We are limiting attendance to 1,000 people to provide plenty of space in the park for people to socially distance.
