In a July 1 newsletter update, GEMS World Academy Chicago has announced that in-person learning will be on the syllabus for the 2020/21 school year.
"Although we will have to make some minor modifications to our program, especially to ensure proper social distancing, we are planning on a school day that is pretty close to normal," wrote Adriana M. Mourgelas, Director of Admissions. "We have prepared our opening document that you can find here."
The announcement contained a link to the school's 2020 plan, which listed and described several Health and Safety Protocols including social distancing, classroom setup, classroom capacity limits and masks and face shields.
Located on Lakeshore East Park in the heart of New Eastside, GEMS World Academy is an International Baccalaureate school that educates a diverse population of students from preschool through grade 12. Although the school temporarily shuttered its campus on Friday, March 13, to abide by Governor Pritzker’s order to close all of the state’s public and private schools, it resumed classes via online videoconferencing the following Monday.
