Illinois Governor JB Pritzker has ordered schools throughout the state to remain closed for the entire 2020 academic year.
Announced during his daily COVID-19 briefing, the action extends the closure of all K-12 schools that the governor ordered on March 13. The original closure was scheduled to expire on April 7, but was extended to include the entire month of April on March 31.
The extension is one of several statewide orders that have been extended in an effort to reduce the spread of coronavirus.
Others include include the ban on in-person dining at restaurants, which was originally announced on March 15; and the stay-at-home order for all residents, which began on March 21.
Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot, according to the Sun-Times, is “fully on board with the move.”
