Amtrak has announced a new direct route between Chicago and Miami, named the Floridian. This temporary route offers a convenient, one-seat ride with stops in popular cities such as Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Washington, D.C., Jacksonville, Orlando, and Tampa.

The introduction of the Floridian route stems from ongoing rehab work on the East River Tunnel in New York. According to theRail Passengers Association, this service will "take pressure off" the Northeast Corridor's infrastructure during the project. Previously, riders needed to transfer in Washington, D.C., during their journey from Chicago to Miami.

"Our members have had a long-standing dream of restoring a one-seat ride from the Midwest to Florida, and we're thrilled that a new generation of American passengers will be able to experience this service for themselves," said Jim Mathews, president and CEO of the Rail Passengers Association.

The journey will take approximately forty-seven hours and includes several amenities to enhance passenger experience. Amtrak offers reclining seats without the inconvenience of middle seats and scenic views for coach-class passengers. First-class travelers can opt for private room accommodations that include upper and lower beds and shower access.

Additional features of the Floridian include traditional dining in a dedicated dining car and a refreshed cafe service with an updated menu. "Rail Passengers applaud Amtrak for this innovative solution to keeping passengers moving during a critical state of good repair work. We believe riders will flock to this new service," Mathews added.

According to the Chicago Business Journal, the Floridian combines the Capitol Limited and Silver Star services, operating along a similar schedule. It is set to begin its first trip on Sunday, November 10. Tickets are currently available for purchase, offering passengers a seamless and direct travel option between the Midwest and Florida.
