The Chicago Sky won big during the 1st round of the WNBA women’s draft on Monday, welcoming college basketball superstars Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardosa to the team.

According to the Chicago Tribune, The Sky selected Cardosa as the number 3 pick, and Reese as the number 7 pick. Iowa’s Caitlin Clark held the number one draft pick spot, joining the Indiana Fever.

Both Reese and Cardosa made huge names for themselves during their college basketball careers. Reese led her former home team, the Louisiana State University Tigers, to a national title in 2023. At 6’ 7”, Cardosa gained recognition for her stellar performance in the 2024 NCAA Tournament with the South Carolina Gamecocks.

“This is a huge night for us for a lot of reasons,” first-year Sky general manager Jeff Pagliocca said in a statement obtained by the Tribune. “We were very fortunate with who our targets were and the fact we were able to get exactly what we wanted out of this draft. We are ecstatic.”

Both Reese and Cardosa expressed excitement about joining the team. The WNBA season begins on May 14.
