Joffrey Ballet President and CEO Greg Cameron has been elected to serve a two-year term as Chair of the State Street Commission.

State Street Commission is a group of public and private officials, appointed by the mayor and city aldermen, tasked with overseeing the vitality of State Street.

The commission is notably responsible for public art displays, security, landscaping and holiday decorations along the historic district.

Over the past year, the commission has seen some of its most beloved traditions, businesses and record tourist numbers fall victim to the repercussions of COVID-19. City leaders and peers have indicated they believe Greg, who has been involved with the State Street Commission since 2014, will lead State Street and Chicago on a path to recovery.

Greg is anticipated to promote organizations and businesses along State Street, prioritize the health and safety of the public, as well as revitalize the city’s status as a cultural icon, Mary B. Galvin Artistic Director Ashley Wheater said in a press release.

“We are already seeing signs of optimism,” Wheater said. “In a year that has tested the boundaries and brought untold challenges to our community, there is no better person to lead our historic district and the city of Chicago through its next great renaissance.”
