Chicago’s three major transit organizations have approved a six-month trial run for a combined day pass, allowing riders to transfer betweenCTA, Metra, and Pace systems using a single pass.

The measure was approved by the Regional Transit Authority (RTA) board of directors on June 20, according to a statement from the RTA. The CTA Metra, and Pace approved of the measure at separate meetings, according to reports.

According to the RTA’s statement, the combined pass will allow unlimited rides on all three Chicago area transit systems on the day of purchase. The combined passes will be funded by the RTA, ranging in price from $10 to $16 depending on which route riders take and which days they plan to travel.

“This agreement is a major step forward for integrating fare policies and products between the region’s transit agencies as we look toward a post-pandemic future of changing travel patterns and more interconnectivity between agency services,” said RTA Executive Director Leanne Redden.

The passes will reportedly be available via the Ventra app in the coming weeks, according to NBC5.
