Illinois has locked in nearly $2.5 billion in investments and close to 4,000 jobs from those companies this year, according to a report from the Chicago Business Journal. The state Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity announced the wins on Wednesday, April 1. The companies that invested span industries such as manufacturing, life sciences, and the food sector.
The Economic Development for a Growing Economy program, known as EDGE, leads the charge. It has already topped job pledges from both EDGE and prior energy programs for all of 2025, the report confirms. “Illinois' record-breaking investments and growth help maintain our state's reputation as a global economic powerhouse,” said DCEO Director Kristin Richards in an Illinois.gov press release.

According to Governor Pritzker’s newsroom, leading global manufacturer of high-precision machine tools DMG MORI plans a $40.5 million investment for advanced manufacturing and R&D in Chicago. The company’s North American headquarters resides in Hoffman Estates.

Mars Snacking brings jobs to affluent Fulton Market
Mars Snacking stands out with a $100 million push in Chicago's Fulton Market, a separate report from the Chicago Business Journal says. The firm will open a North America regional hub for over 1,000 workers and add 600 jobs. It also houses the Accelerator Division.
“Chicago has long been a hub for our business, and now it is our official home for our North America region and our Accelerator Division — firmly establishing our legacy and our future together,” said Andrew Clarke, global president of Mars Snacking, according to Governor Pritzker’s newsroom.
The expansion taps $43 million in EDGE tax credits. According to Chicago Business Journal, it follows Mars' $36 billion buy of Chicago's Kellanova, maker of Pringles and Cheez-It. Mars now boasts over 4,000 Chicago jobs after recent office grabs and a 2024 Goose Island R&D hub.
These moves boost Illinois' national economic rankings and job access. Firms like these validate the state's edge in key industries.
