The first "Meet Me On The Mile Sunday Spectacle, Motors & Music" was a 'smashing success' according to event organizers. Held Sunday, August 15 and presented by The Magnificent Mile Association, the event included a partial street closure (Michigan Avenue between Pearson and Chicago Avenue) and a first-of-its-kind pedestrian access in front of the historic Water Tower.
Jane Byrne Park served as the venue for a Tai Chi class, live artists and caricaturists, PAWS' pet adoptions, a Walgreen's vaccination site, story-time with Cinderella, large scale artwork by NYC artist Maxwell Gray and a headliner event, the classic car show (featuring a 1946 Packard Clipper among others), sponsored by The Peninsula Chicago.
Stages featured a variety of acts including a 9:30 am sell-out crowd for Deep House Yoga's Silent Disco Yoga, the Chicago Bears Drumline, Mariachi Ameca and Tubad & The Kings of Nola (with tuba player Amir Gray) and so much more.
The next Sunday Spectacle will be held on September 26 and staged at the DuSable Bridge (401 N. Michigan at the Wrigley Building). It will include "Marriage On The Mile" a contest that will allow couples the opportunity to get married on one of the greatest avenues in the world.
