Oberweis Dairy has selected Renato DePaolis II as its new chief executive officer, marking an important step in the company's recovery after financial difficulties. According to Biz Journals, this appointment comes after private equity firm Hoffmann Family of Companies bought the dairy at a bankruptcy auction last year.

DePaolis previously worked on the corporate team at Hoffmann Family of Companies and helped guide Oberweis during the transition period. The former CEO, Adam Kraber, will stay with the organization in a different role as senior vice president of sales and growth. Biz Journals reports that DePaolis brings experience from aerospace technology and global logistics sectors, and he has provided advice to presidential administrations on security matters.

Major investments drive recovery

The new ownership has put significant money into improving Oberweis' operations since taking control. Dairy Foods indicates that Hoffmann Family of Companies invested $15 million in upgrading stores and $6 million in the North Aurora production facility during the first year.

The company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection before the acquisition, but the situation has improved under new management. Oberweis, founded in 1927, became famous throughout the Midwest for delivering milk in glass bottles to homes and operating retail ice cream shops. According to Dairy Foods, Geoff Hoffmann expressed confidence that DePaolis can lead the company into its next growth phase and help it reach full potential.

DePaolis holds multiple advanced degrees, including an MBA from MIT Sloan and a law degree from Boston College.
