A pickleball social club could soon be coming to the site of the former Brooklyn Boulders climbing gym in Lincoln Park.

2nd Ward Ald. Brian Hopkins will host a virtual meeting on Wednesday, June 21, to discuss the project. In a notice, Hopkins stated the meeting will allow the developers to present their plans for the club and address community questions.

A recent study by the Sports and Fitness Industry Association (SFIA) found pickleball to be the country’s fastest-growing sport. In 2022, pickleball participation more than doubled compared to 2021, increasing by more than 85% year-over-year.

In recent months, pickleball interest around Chicago has grown, leading to community disagreements over park space. In March of 2023, Old Town residents clashed with local pickleball players over implementing unauthorized pickleball nets in Bauler Park. (Block Club Chicago)

Introducing a designated pickleball club in Lincoln Park could offer a solution by providing a convenient venue for pickleball enthusiasts without compromising the use of public spaces.
