Chicago’s South Loop T.J. Maxx store is scheduled to close after the holidays, according to Block Club Chicago. A spokesperson confirmed on Monday that the discount clothing retailer will shutter its doors at 1008 S. Canal St. by January 6, 2024.
The South Loop store is part of The Maxwell, a collective of retail outlets that include Dick's Sporting Goods, Nordstrom, and Burlington. The closure brings a wave of disappointment among loyal bargain seekers who frequent the location and marks another blow to the Loop’s post-pandemic retail rebound.
As T.J. Maxx closes its doors in the coming months, South Loop residents will have to find different destinations for their shopping needs. It remains a question of how this closure will impact the future of retailers in South Loop and the foot traffic in the shopping district.
