Travel + Leisure honors Lake Forest’s Deer Path Inn as No. 1 Resort Hotel in the Midwest

Deer Path Inn in Lake Forest has been named the No. 1 Resort Hotel in the Midwest in Travel + Leisure’s World’s Best Awards. According to a press release by the inn, it is the eighth time the 57-room hotel has taken the top spot, a repeat win that reflects reader votes and years of steady loyalty from guests.

Opened in 1929, the English-style boutique hotel is known for its mannerly service, cozy rooms and personalized stays. The property says its appeal comes from a mix of historic character and modern touches, including Afternoon Tea, custom packages and dining spaces filled with art.

Packages, dining and nonalcoholic options

In celebration of the recognition, Deer Path Inn stated in its announcement that travelers can book a two-night stay or longer and receive a complimentary welcome gift on arrival. The inn also promotes personalized packages such as Fit for Royalty, Solo Travel, A Good Book & A Spot of Tea and Zero-Proof Experiences.

According to the inn, Fit for Royalty includes an afternoon slumber menu, private and silent omakase dinner, wellness shots, Sleepy Jones pajamas and a personal journal. Solo Travel offers afternoon tea for one, a welcome cocktail and a reserved corner table at The Brasserie.

The Zero-Proof package includes an in-suite DIY mocktail mixology kit, a private lesson with the inn’s Chief Spirits Officer and a take-home gift for mocktails at home. The inn also stated The Bar now serves a rotating menu of alcohol-free cocktails.

The Brasserie serves a modern menu in an intimate setting surrounded by more than 70 works of local and international art. Other food and beverage options include sushi at The Bar and classic pub fare at The White Hart Pub.

Deer Path Inn confirmed its win is tied to guest voting in Travel + Leisure’s World’s Best Awards, which makes the recognition especially meaningful for the property. The hotel describes itself as a North Shore landmark that has long served travelers and Chicago-area guests seeking a stay with a British-influenced feel.
