Ulta Beauty is joining a wave of retail closures at the South Loop’s Roosevelt Collection Shops. The popular beauty chain will shut its doors on June 14, ending a 12-year presence in this Chicago location.
While the specific reasons for this closure remain unclear, industry reports suggest Ulta has had a sluggish fiscal year, with challenges in keeping up with competitors such as Sephora. New CEO Kecia Steelman told The U.S. Sun that online shopping and same-day delivery have been particular pain points. Despite the setback, Ulta plans to open 200 new stores over the next three years.
Discounts Ahead of Closure
As the South Loop location prepares to close, shoppers can take advantage of significant markdowns. Ulta is offering discounts of up to 75% on selected items.
This closure follows the exits of The Container Store and Kido Chicago from the same shopping complex, marking a challenging year for the Roosevelt Collection Shops. While Ulta is leaving, the chain maintains a strong presence in the region, encouraging shoppers to visit its other nine stores throughout the Chicagoland area, as stated by a company spokesperson in an email to Block Club Chicago.
