Bears loss— Was it worse watching it live or on tape 3

Major dental surgery would have been far less painful.  Ditto for a little angioplasty. At least they give you some pain killers for those immediately after.

I watched my beloved Bears, on tape no less, at 5:00 this morning.  Wow, what a gut punch. Not the way to start the day that is for sure!

Mind you all Bears defeats hurt. Some more than others but this one took the “more than others” mantra to the ultimate extreme.

I should mention that I flew in from out of town yesterday and had my wife tape the game.  Amazingly, I was able to get through the day without finding out the score or what happened.  Too tired when I got home at night, I ended up watching the game all by my lonesome at the crack of dawn.

What better way to start the day than a nice hot cup of coffee and then lo and behold a Justin Fields-led perfect drive for a touchdown to start the game, 7-0, to end the first quarter.  Absolutely a thing of beauty! And it was great to see Fields back from injury and playing with confidence, maturity and command. Things we haven’t always seen from the likable third-year QB.

From that wonderful beginning, it got even better for the Bears. They took command of possession—40 minutes to the Lions’ 20 minutes of possession—then dominated physically. They even dominated on special teams as our guy Fields was clearly outplaying the veteran and Super Bowl-tested talent Lions quarterback.

Our defense even came through with three interceptions!

What a great win this was going to be, on the road against a quality team.  A stepping stone moment maybe for this young Bears team and their head coach Matt Eberflus. The early morning watch was going just swimmingly.

Bears: Disappointment du Jour?

And then—the last four minutes happened.  Right around cup of coffee number three, things started to fall apart. And when they did the Monsters of Midway went into full collapse mode.

Suddenly,Goff turned into the second coming of Tom Brady—Boom!  Seven plays in less than a minute and quickly down the field, the Lions go to score a touchdown.  They then get the ball back with less than two minutes left and double boom!  This time 11 plays and into the end zone they go with 29 seconds left in the game.

Suddenly, and this is where coffee number three almost ended splattered all over the television monitor, as the beloved Bears had snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. A vital win fettered away in less than four minutes.

As I said at the beginning—sometimes watching the Bears is more painful than major surgery.  A wonderful would-be win went quicker than you can say Amon-Ra St. Brown (he is the Lions star receiver)—actually even quicker.

Fans across Bears Nation are walking around the city and suburbs today in a complete daze.

I guess the only question I can ask my fellow Bears fans is this: Was it more painful to watch live? Or on tape?

Jon, being a life long fan of Detroit. We have experienced ups and downs, even at times thinking about throwing the TV out the window. Always had much respect for them Bears. However, your QBs dance was to much. Way to much. After that, even with 40 minutes owning the game, it was way to much. After that he even deserved what Hutch did with the safety. Shame on him…
