Get ready for Chicago Triathlon weekend

Just when the city will be recovering from the energy and excitement of convention week—boom!  Get ready for more.

You’ve heard the term “no rest for the weary”?  So it will be this weekend as some of the best of the best in the world of triathlon racing descend upon Chicago, and they will be joined by thousands of amateurs, recreation triathletes and even some first timers brave enough to subject themselves to this ultimate fitness test.

Triathlon competition for the uninitiated, is not for the faint of heart.  It is the rare athletic challenge that combines swimming, cycling and running all under one roof (so to speak)

This Saturday and Sunday, August 24, and 25 will be the races, and interestingly, there are three different ones to choose from.  The Super Sprint will be on Saturday, and The Sprint and The International Triathlon on Sunday.

You may get exhausted even just reading about these distances but here is the breakdown:

The Super Sprint (Saturday at 10:00am) - .23 mile swim, 6.2 mile on the bike, and then 1.5 mile run

The Sprint (Sunday, at 8:00 am) - .47 mile swim, 15 mile bike, 3.1 mile run.

The International Triathlon (Sunday, at 6:00 am) - 1.5K swim, 40K on the bike, 10k run.

The International typically brings out some of the elite triathletes, but as you can see above there is something for everybody in this weekend’s event and the challenge will be great.

The Chicago Triathlon is one of the biggest in the country drawing over 8,000 participants, and this will be the 41st edition of the race.

So clear out the Democratic Convention signs and barricades and get ready for Chi Tri 2024!
