Lionesses at Lincoln Park Zoo

Is it just me or is Thursday the new Friday? Maybe it is because so many folks work from home now on Fridays, or suddenly the three-day weekend has become a thing, but whatever the case, Thursday nights in our fine neighborhoods of Chicago are rocking big time. Downtown and in the suburbs, everybody is out. Friday happy hour is so yesterday (apparently), and now it is Thursday night’s time to shine.

Every year I go to the zoo and this year will be no exception. I love Lincoln Park Zoo. I love all zoos, but every time I go there I feel worse and worse for the animals in this particular zoo. Let's just be honest, they don’t look happy. Bored, lethargic, lazy and uninterested, they remind me of me, watching the fourth quarter of a Bears game this season. Is it time to close down zoos, and let these animals back in their natural habitat? Just a thought, but one that is gaining more and more traction with me every time I visit said zoo.

Final thought... Anytime they want to blow up the hold-in-your-hand credit card payment devices is ok with me. I don’t like deciding on tip when the person serving me who I am giving the tip to is standing right over me. Undue pressure.  On a related note, if I am picking up an order, do I really need to punch in a 15% tip? I drove over, I made the call, I got out of the car to come in and grab the food to go. If anything I should tip myself!

In the meantime… all the best, to all of you — for a wonderful 2023!
