2025 national college football champions

Columbus, Ohio, celebrates Tuesday, as their beloved Buckeyes won the national championship Monday night with a 34-23 victory over the game, but overmatched, Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

It was done early, as Ohio State’s high-powered offense scored touchdowns on their first four possessions, taking a halftime lead of 28-7. This all came after an incredible opening drive by Notre Dame which consumed 18 plays and ended on a Riley Leonard touchdown run.

But from there? It was all silver and grey. Quarterback Will Leonard couldn’t miss, with pinpoint and polished passing accuracy, and running back Quinshon Judkins led a host of skill position players who made big plays all over the field. It should be noted that this came against a really tough Notre Dame defense that had shined in its previous three playoff games.

The Irish made a mini run late in the second half to keep things interesting for the sleepy-eyed late-night watchers, but in the end, the gang from Columbus prevailed.

What a turnaround—from the disastrous loss against Michigan in front of their very own fans, where they were booed off the field—to, six weeks later, winning the national championship.

Coach Ryan Davis and his staff righted the ship after that loss, and the Buckeyes just turned on the switch and literally and figuratively ran over opponents the rest of the season.

They had to win four games in the college football playoffs, including knocking off powerhouse teams like Texas and Oregon—and they did it, all in convincing fashion.

Thus, another great season of college football has come to an end, and congrats to the crew from Columbus for becoming the rightful national champions.
